Mattel produced the ‘1957’ Chevrolet Bel Air hardtop with the exposed engine in 1996. This car was manufactured in Malaysia. This “exposed engine” Hot Wheel was produced using two different materials – diecast body and plastic body with the exposed engine in both cases being diecast. Oddly, there doesn’t seem to be any collector desirability for the different manufactured styles one way or the other.
These are some of the details for the pictured ’57 Chevy above:
- Yellow in color
- Exposed diecast engine
- Made in Malaysia
- Chrome chassis
- Black tinted windshields
- Sp5 wheels/small on front, medium on rear
- Hot Wheel logo on the right side only
- Gray line detailing on both sides
- Hot Wheel, Mattel Inc., 1976 and Malaysia embossed on bottom
- All black interior
There were many versions of the 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Hardtop manufactured by Mattel. Some of the variations included changes to chassis, color, windshields, tampos, with and without exposed engine, detailing to name a few. The only common feature was that they all had ‘2 doors’.
This exposed engine version is a very popular car in Hot Wheel collecting arena. And, if you’re a fan of the ’57 Chevrolet Bel Air, you’ll find it not only fun but also challenging to collect all of the versions produced of this car.
